Leicester City host champions Liverpool in an intriguing game that will have ramifications in the battle for a top four finish and qualification for Champions League football.

But Klopp has expected more from the Reds, despite their injury crisis: “Even though I know the reason why we are not flying, I expect us to win more games than we have. That’s what I am concerned about. We know we are not completely clueless but we know we have to be successful in the future and that’s what we’ll try to be. We will try our absolute best to make the best season from now on. We will go for it. That’s our job.”

While the Reds will not give up on defending their title, with City 10 points clear and in possession of a game in hand, the focus will be on fending off competition from Chelsea and West Ham, one point behind, as well as Everton and Tottenham, who face Pep Guardiola’s side later today, in a gripping top four chase.

Follow live goal and score updates from the King Power, including analysis and reaction in what promises to be a candidate for game of the weekend, while there will be team news for Crystal Palace vs Burley in the 3pm kick-off in the Premier League.

LEICESTER 0 – 0 LIVERPOOL

3 mins: The home side defend the corner well and a mis-communicatioin between James Milner and Curtis Jones gives the ball to James Maddison. He has the ball in his own half and sees Alisson well out of his goal and decides to fire and long shot up the pitch. The ball has a long way to travel though and Alisson is able to jog back and pluck the ball out of the air.

KICK OFF

Leicester get the match underway and send the ball out of play with a pass out to the left wing. Liverpool take the throw in and work it to Andy Robertson on their left side. He pushes forward and whips in a cross that Caglar Soyuncu knocks out for a corner.

A BAD START TO THE NEW YEAR

It’s five defeats in nine matches for Liverpool in 2021. They have won three times and drawn once. The Reds have lost successive league fixtures for the first time under Jurgen Klopp – they have not lost three in a row since November 2014, when under current Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers. They have won just six of their last 17 away league games, in contrast to 16 victories in their previous 17 attempts.

POOR HOME FORM

Leicester have only managed one win and four points in four league matches. The Foxes have lost five home league games in 2020/21, one more than the whole of last season, with only 16 of their 43 points coming at the King Power Stadium this term.

A SIX POINT MATCH?

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers doesn’t believe today’s game will be too impactful on his team’s goal of finishing in the top four this season even if they lose. A win would move them six points clear of Liverpool but defeat would drop them down to fourth. Rodgers said:

A six-pointer? No, there’s still a long way to go but it’s a fantastic game, one we are looking forward to against the champions. It’s a big blow for us with James Justin being out because he has been amazing.

“We have the flexibility to play a few systems, that’s been pleasing with the versatility of the team. The team is fresh, we rested plenty in midweek.”
