Chelsea have another chance with seconds of the half remaining but Werner is crowded out in the box before he can shoot. But Frank Lampard will be happier after that second goal just before the break. It’s given his side a cushion, while Morecambe will be deflated after defending resolutely throughout the half.

Chelsea suddenly turn on the style. Ziyech cuts onto his left foot and whips a cross towards Havertz, who nods a delicate header into the path of Werner a couple of yards out from goal. It’s an easy finish for the German, able to prod home into an empty net.

Chelsea to continue to probe but there’s a paucity of ideas from the home side. Their attempts at intricate buildup play aren’t working and Morecambe, despite trailing, look fairly comfortable.

Havertz has a free header from a Chelsea corner but can only flick it a long way wide of the target. He’s struggled to make his mark so far today.

Hudson-Odoi links up with Mount and races away down the left again. He drives the ball low into the middle but it’s blocked at the near post by Davis.

Decent effort from Phillips, who hits a dipping volley from the edge of the box and gives Kepa some work to do. It’s a routine save, but Chelsea need to be alert when Phillips is on the ball.
