Pep Guardiola’s side know defeat will hand Liverpool the chance to be crowned champions on Wednesday
Manchester City welcome Burnley to the Etihad Stadium this evening as Pep Guardiola’s side seek to extend Liverpool’s wait for the Premier League title.
City resumed their Premier League campaign with a dominant victory against Arsenal last Wednesday, but still face an anxious wait to see whether their Champions League ban will be upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. If City suffer defeat against the Clarets, they will hand Liverpool the chance to win their first title in 30 years against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
For Burnley, there is still lingering hope of securing a spot in next season’s Europa League. Sean Dyche’s side resume their campaign with seven points separating them from sixth-placed Sheffield United but boast a game in hand over the Blades, and were unbeaten in their last five matches prior to the break.

Man City 4 – 0 Burnley
54 mins: Sean Dyche can’t be happy with what he’s seeing. The goals have all come too easily for Man City, to set up a deep defence and then concede four goals inside of an hour is a catastrophe.
Man City 3 – 0 Burnley
48 mins: Zinchenko goes for goal from outside the box. David Silva makes a run inside the area at the same time and the shot hits him and deflects out for a goal kick. Man City clearly want more goals.
Man City 3 – 0 Burnley
Second half: The action continues at the Etihad with no further changes for either team. Can Burnley stem the flow of goals?
Burnley have released an official statement condemning the actions of the racists who organised the banner:
It’s been an awful half for Burnley. Man City are a great team and they’ve shown Burnley up so far. The Clarets should come out all guns blazing for the second half, if they concede a couple more goals it doesn’t matter, they should go for broke.
I’m sick of racists. Their idiocy is unbelievable. Stunts like this just show how these people completely miss the point of the Black Lives Matter movement and that they bring shame on the whole country:
Man City 3 – 0 Burnley
45+5 mins: Easy pickings for Man City, if they commit they could get a few more goals before this game is over. Ederson’s had one of the easiest games going. Someone get him a book or magazine, just to keep him busy in the second half.
Aguero got injured in the tangle with Mee and he’s replaced by Gabriel Jesus.
