Spurs are hoping to kickstart a run of form while the Hammers are concentrating solely on survival
Tottenham Hotspur host West Ham United in Tuesday’s evening Premier League kick-off as Jose Mourinho’s side aim to revive their hopes of a European place.
Spurs were denied victory against Manchester United in their first game since the break after Bruno Fernandes’ late equaliser from the penalty spot. However, there’s reason for optimism, with a full-strength attacking line-up now at Mourinho’s disposal as Dele Alli returns from suspension.
West Ham succumbed to a miserable home defeat against Wolves in their opening fixture and are staring down the barrel of relegation, currently only outside the bottom-three by way of goal difference. Follow all the action live after the conclusion of Leicester vs Brighton:
80′ – Tottenham 1-0 West Ham
Into the final 10 minutes. Lamela almost finds an opening before Kane loses possession, but Bowen fails to find his man on the counter. It’s very open, very ragged, very much lacking the usual refined quality that most of these players are capable of.
76′ – Tottenham 1-0 West Ham
Anderson receives a short corner on the edge of the box and shoots low toward the near post, but it’s off target by a couple of yards. Sissoko bundles over Antonio unnecessarily to concede a free-kick—and after the set-piece comes in, Bowen strikes a low effort against the outside of the post. Closest West Ham have come.
72′ – Tottenham 1-0 West Ham
20 or so minutes for West Ham to come up with something. As it stands, they’ll be staying level on points with Bournemouth who are in the relegation zone.
62′ – Tottenham 0-0 West Ham
Another chance at either end. Antonio latches onto a long pass and lashes a half-volley miles over the bar on the run. Then Balbuena makes a customary error, Lamela races into the box, Balbuena almost brings him down and the Argentinian attacker fires off-target.
58′ – Tottenham 0-0 West Ham
Kane sends a strike over the bar at one end; Rice hits a deflected effort wide at the other. A little more back-and-forth in the game in this half as we approach the hour mark.
54′ – Tottenham 0-0 West Ham
Big chance for West Ham. A move down the right sees Bowen cross to Fornals and he swings at the ball…but doesn’t catch it cleanly. Well wide of goal and that could be a big moment.
48′ – Tottenham 0-0 West Ham
Dier suddenly breaks forward, runs between the West Ham midfielders and curls a shot at goal – a yard or two wide. A nice bit of opportunistic play, though.
Who will make the first move after the break? Three points here could be massive for either side.
45+2′ – Tottenham 0-0 West Ham
Dele Alli wants a free-kick on the edge of the box after a theatrical fall, but the ref’s not interested. Davies crosses for Lucas Moura in the box and its a great chance – but he steers it wide. Had to test Fabianski there.
