It’s day 10 of the Beijing Winter Olympics and the first-ever medal for monobob is up for grabs alongside events ice dancing, freestyle skiing, and curling.

Monobob is one of the seven new sports that was added to the Games this year to increase women’s participation in bobsleigh events, making it a gender-balanced discipline having two men’s and two women’s events.

All eyes will be set on Kaillie Humphries who would be vying to win her first medal for Team USA along with Elana Meyers Taylor.

Curling has pitted Team GB’s women against Canada.  Eve Muirhead, whose rink won gold at Sochi 2014  while Canadian skip Jennifer Jones took gold, will be looking to make a statement for Britain.

Snowboard big air qualifying will also take place, giving a medal opportunity to GB’s Katie Ormerod. Ormerod has six career World Cup big air podiums to her name.

Court of Arbitration for Sport explains verdict

“In particular, the panel considered that preventing the athlete from competing at the Olympic Games would cause her irreparable harm in these circumstances,” a Cas statement read.

“The CAS panel also emphasised that there were serious issues of untimely notification of the results in the athlete’s anti-doping test that was performed in December 2021 which impinged upon the athlete’s ability to establish certain legal requirements for her benefit, while such late notification was not her fault, in the middle of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022.”

“The panel considered fundamental principle of fairness, proportionality, irreparable harm, and the relative balance of interests as between the applicants and the athlete, who did not test positive during the Olympic Games in Beijing and is still subject to a disciplinary procedure on the merits following the positive anti-doping test undertaken in December 2021.”

Breaking: Valieva cleared to continue competing

Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva can continue to compete at the Winter Olympics after the Court of Arbitration for Sport determined that no provisional suspension should be imposed.

The CAS cited “exceptional circumstances” for its decision, after the 15-year-old submitted a positive sample for the trimetazidine on Christmas Day.

They included Valieva’s status as a “protected person” under the World Anti-Doping Code, “serious issues” in the process of notifying Valieva of her result, and the fact a suspension could cause her “irreparable harm”.

Winter Olympics 2022: Russia’s Valieva to learn decision in doping case on Monday

Russia’s figure skater Kamila Valieva is expected to know the decision on Monday on whether she can compete in the individual event following the 15-year-old athlete’s failed drugs test.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) concluded the six-hour long hearing on Sunday and will rule on her participation before her women’s individual event where is a heavy favourite.

The 15-year-old prodigy, who became the first woman to land a quadruple jump at the Olympics and won gold, tested positive for a banned heart drug on 25 December. But her results were revealed after more than six weeks.

IOC spokesman Mark Adams wanted all legal issues “settled once and for all before this competition starts.” But all the agencies – which include the IOC, World Anti-Doping Agency and the Russian team – could not agree on a process.

Therefore, the court won’t decide now whether Valieva is guilty of doping, nor whether the Russian skaters can keep the gold team medal they won with Valieva’s help. That would be separately investigated.
